The Origin of Da Silva

Da Silva is a common surname of Portuguese. It is derived from Latin silva meaning the forest. It was heard that the surname is originated from Valença, a city at the north border of Portugal. Please be reminded that silva is also the name of a parish in both Barcelos and the municipality of Miranda do Douro. Forests are quite common in Portugal. It could be very hard to trace back the origin.
